Frequently asked questions.

We source and roast coffee from single farms, estates and cooperatives. When we taste a coffee we like, we want to know where it comes from and who grows, picks and processes it — we travel throughout the year to meet the farmers and establish a direct relationship with the grower and exporter.

We buy some organic coffee — it's identified with Organic Certification GB-ORG-04.

No. We buy via direct relationships with growers and exporters instead — see "How do you buy your coffee?" above.

Some of it is, but we don't use these certifications — again, see how we go about buying our coffee.

Coffee is a seasonal product, with one or in some countries two crops a year. We buy small lots from many farms in each country, so when one runs out we move on to the next one we've bought. In some places the farms are very small — just one or two acres — and these coffees change more frequently.

We roast Monday to Friday each week; the coffee you receive will usually have been roasted a few days before despatch.

Yes — standard grind options, coarsest to finest, are Cafetière; Filter and Aeropress Slow; and Stovetop / Aeropress Fast / Espresso. If you need something else, contact us and we'll talk through your brew method.

Keep it in the bag it comes in, then for the best flavour inside a container in a cool, dark space.

Use it as soon as you can for the most flavour, especially if ground. Online and wholesale orders carry a best-before date two months from the date the coffee was despatched from our roastery.

Yes. We buy from many farms with different varietals, but all are Arabica.

We buy the coffee from the farm and send it to Mexico to be decaffeinated using the Mountain Water Process.

Our pods are compatible with machines that use Nespresso® Original capsules — they won't work with Vertuo, Dolce Gusto® or other pod systems.

Aluminium, chosen for its recyclability — around 75% of all aluminium ever put into circulation is still being recycled and reused. Empty the pod into food waste, rinse it, and add it to your aluminium recycling, or use the Podback drop-off/kerbside service. We joined Podback, a free-to-user pod recycling scheme, in November 2024.

Orders are despatched every weekday excluding bank holidays. Orders received by 2pm on a weekday are despatched that day; anything later, or over a weekend/bank holiday, goes out the next business day.

Royal Mail 2nd Class Tracked (£3.90 flat fee, up to 5kg, 2–5 working days) for any UK address; DPD next weekday (£8.10 up to 5kg, £10 up to 8kg, 1–2 working days) for mainland UK; DPD two-day (£19.57 flat fee, up to 8kg) for the Scottish Highlands, UK islands and Northern Ireland. We ship across the UK and to the Isle of Man, but not to the Channel Islands or internationally.

Yes — if anything is wrong with your order, let us know straight away and we'll arrange a return or exchange. Items bought online can't be returned to our shops.

No — visits to our offices and roastery are by appointment only.

We don't offer courses ourselves, but we can recommend the London School of Coffee for barista, espresso machine maintenance and roasting classes.
